High angle measurement demands
Different industries, similar needs.
Medical or industrial applications, vehicle manufacturing or the energy sector, rail technology or robotics: in angle measurement, key aspects often include safety, limited space and high price sensitivity with maximum measurement accuracy.
Stretcher for ambulances
This can be illustrated with the example of a stretcher with an electronically controlled elevator system, as used in ambulances. To make it easier to place patients on the stretcher, the bed surface can be positioned close to ground level. To ensure that even heavy patients can be maneuvered into the ambulance without placing unnecessary strain on the medical team, the motorized stretcher can then be raised to the right height for the ambulance.
It is crucial that the stretcher automatically elevates into the exact, vehicle-specific end position. This requires precise angle measurement. Furthermore, high accuracy and safety must be guaranteed, even in adverse conditions. Equally important criteria include compact dimensions, the possibility of integral redundancy, convenient adjustment options and an attractive price/performance ratio.
Industrial Vert-X 16 rotary encoder
Contelec’s compact, high-precision Vert-X 16 industrial rotary encoder was built for demanding applications like this. It has a diameter of just 16 mm. Tabs reinforced with metal inlets allow it to be secured robustly and reliably.
The rotary encoder, fitted with an axial wire connection, delivers 12 to 14 bit resolution, linearity of ±0.3% of the measuring range, programmable angles and protection up to IP65. It is available with a choice of interfaces, including ratiometric and PWM signal outputs. A digital SPI interface can also be integrated. This digitally outputs the absolute angle values with a resolution of 14 bit, so there is no need for subsequent A/D signal conversion and interference-free data transfer is guaranteed.
