Precise control for heavy-load transporters

Vert-X 79 combines magnitude and accuracy.

Today’s heavy-load transporters, fitted with numerous axles that rotate in all directions, are able to maneuver enormous loads with astonishing precision. This requires seamless interaction of the precisely controlled drive wheels, of which there are often dozens. These are fitted with high-precision rotary encoders to control and measure angle positions.

Up until now, potentiometers have primarily been used. The drawback here is that every new angle configuration is associated with costs and time spent on implementation.

Contactless and non-contacting rotary encoders

This can be remedied with contactless and non-contacting rotary sensors. The Vert-X 79 rotary encoder is based on established MH-C and MH-C2 technology and is simple to adapt. Realizing custom angles is quick and straightforward.

Vert-X 79 offers a range of different interfaces (0.1–10 V / 4–20 mA / CANopen). The external contours and diameter of 79 mm are designed to conform with existing systems and installation standards and allow a virtually seamless upgrade of existing systems.

Driving disk as coupling element

The Vert-X 79, designed for use in harsh conditions, can be fitted with a driving disk. This acts as a coupling element between the rotary encoder itself and the rotating axis. Because of this loose connection, precise measurements are possible even where there is radial and axial misalignment. Even without the driving disk, the encoder is impressive in heavy-duty applications thanks to a permissible shaft load of up to 300 N radial.

Rotary encoder with numerous features

Further performance characteristics and options ensure suitability for a wide range of different application areas. Although the standard version is fitted with an M12 connector, the rotary encoder is also available with a customer-specific connection. Versions with semi or full redundancy are available as an option.

One exceptional feature is the resistance to magnetic fields, specified at 300 A/m, 2,000 A/m or even up to 10,000 A/m, depending on the version. A further variant offers an impressive temperature-optimized 0.1–10 V or 4–20 mA interface and a temperature coefficient of <25 ppm/K.

In the MH-C2 variant, the 12 to 16 bit resolution Vert-X 79 rotary encoder, specified with an IP68/IP69K protection rating, offers specific programming and setting possibilities. It supports individual setting of the direction of rotation (CW, CCW), the index point (zero point or midpoint) and the start/end point.
