Precise angle measurements for heavy-duty applications
Agricultural machinery, side loaders or drill rigs for mining and tunnel construction: technical systems of this kind are confronted with harsh environmental conditions.
Despite their hefty nature, these machines are built to carry out delicate work with extreme precision: such as making precise bore holes for explosives or loading trucks with containers.
To ensure that applications like these can take place with the required precision, even in the most adverse conditions, exact control of rotary movements and precise measurement of angle positions – e.g. of cantilever arms and drilling arms – are crucial.
Vert-X 48E – compact and robust
With its Vert-X 48E model, Contelec has introduced a compact, non-contacting rotary encoder that is perfect for heavy-duty applications. With an external diameter of 48 mm, height of 17 mm, IP68/IP69K protection rating and high resistance to shock and vibrations, the Vert-X 48E meets the highest of demands in terms of robustness, stability, form factor and environmental conditions.
Sensor and magnetic actuator mechanically separated
With non-contacting and contactless MH-C and MH-C2 technology, there is no mechanical connection between the rotating axis and the actual measuring system. Sensor and magnetic actuator are mechanically separated, with the permanent magnet attached to the rotating object. With the standard magnetic actuators, axial operating distances of up to 13.8 mm are possible without affecting the resolution, which is specified at 12 to 16 bit.
Custom variants and options
The Vert-X 48E rotary encoder is highly tolerant to tipping and radial misalignment. As well as delivering remarkable standard performance characteristics, the rotary sensor can be supplied with an impressive variety of custom variants and options. These include different magnetic actuators, application-specific cable connections and diverse analog and digital interfaces (0.1–10 V / 4–20 mA / CANopen).
The rotary encoder is available in a redundant version. The setting features make it extremely simple to set index points (e.g. zero point) and the direction of rotation. On the one hand, this makes for efficient installation of the encoder. On the other hand, it makes it easy to compensate for device-side tolerances and the installation tolerances of the encoder.
