Precise angle measurement with maximal installation tolerance
The increasingly stringent safety directives in vehicle manufacturing are a major challenge when it comes to selecting suitable sensors.
Robust, high-precision, wear-free rotary encoders are called for here. Redundancy and reliability are key aspects. If the sensors and control unit are some distance from one another, increased signal transmission requirements also have to be taken into account.
Other important criteria include installation and suitability for retrofitting. Generally, only minimal space is available for installation – with significant installation tolerances. Solutions also need to be impervious to misalignment caused by wear.
Vert-X 90E – the rotary encoder for vehicle manufacturing
Contelec’s Vert‑X 90E is a highly robust and extremely flat sensor solution, specifically developed for applications in the vehicle manufacturing industry. It is a non-contacting rotary encoder, consisting of physically separated “position encoder” and “sensor” units. The position encoder is a passive, robust element (magnet) that is attached to the rotating object. The active sensor, meanwhile, is positioned and fixed to a fixed object some distance from the position encoder.
Because of the non-contacting architecture, there is no direct mechanical connection between the rotating axis and the actual measuring system. This means that precise measurements are possible even with significant radial and axial misalignment (of up to several millimeters). This fact is noticeable when it comes to installing the rotary encoder: measurement remains precise, even with wide installation tolerances. Misalignment arising over the course of time has no negative influence on the precision of the angle measurement.
Rotary encoder with extremely flat format
The most immediately apparent feature of this heavy-duty-ready sensor is its extremely flat format. This allows it to be used in applications and positions that would previously have been unthinkable. To comply with the highest of safety and security requirements in terms of redundancy and data transfer, the encoder can also be fitted with different and redundant interfaces.
The Vert-X 90E rotary encoder is based on innovative Vert-X MH-C2 technology. This makes it simple for the user to set index points (e.g. zero point) and direction of rotation on site.
